We are extremely proud to be the exclusive rug producers of the internationally renowned architect Léon Stynen’s rugdesigns for the next 10 years. A Belgian architect, urban planner, and designer, Stynen was an incredible talent. Many of his remarkable creations remain prominent today, including the impressive Casino-Kursaal in Ostend, DeSingel in Antwerp, the BP Building, the Crest Hotel (now Crowne Plaza), and many more...
Wendy Guns and Reza Ashtari visited the Casino-Kursaal to study the designs and architecture in depth. Based on their research and insightful discussions with Luc Vincent and Els Degryse, they extended their search to the Flanders Architecture Institute (VAI). At VAI, Wendy Guns from Ashtari Carpets meticulously analyzed and measured Léon Stynen’s original drawings of the famous Écossais motif. Using advanced graphic design software, she precisely reconstructed the pattern in detail.
The color palette was carefully reassembled and finalized into six fixed color settings, offering a refined selection of combinations. Samples were then developed in collaboration with master weavers in Nepal. As a result, six showroom rugs are currently in production: two measuring 2.5 x 3.5 meters, 2 at 2 x 3 meters, and two at 1.7 x 2.4 meters.
These exclusive rugs will be completed by March 2025 and will be showcased in various projects and exhibitions. The first official presentation will take place at BADAFF | Belgian Art & Design Affair from March 20–23, 2025, where we will unveil these exceptional design pieces. The book on LEON STYNEN and Art & DESIGN by Els Degryse will be published by SNOECK in March 2026.
