"Movement in Blue" and "Movement in Red"
When designer Tim Van Steenbergen visited Ashtari Carpets, Wendy Guns and Reza Ashtari saw the perfect opportunity to collaborate with an artist they deeply admired. This meeting resulted in two exclusive rug designs: "Movement in Blue" and "Movement in Red", inspired by the abstract art of Kazimir Malevich.
The foundation for the designs draws from Malevich’s Suprematism, an art movement where feeling, not technique, gives rise to creativity. Tim found particular inspiration in the following quote by Malevich:"There is movement and movement. There are movements of small tension and movements of great tension and there is also a movement which our eyes cannot catch although it can be felt. In art this state is called dynamic movement."
From Design to Creation: The Journey of Crafting the Final Rug
Tim Van Steenbergen created the initial 2D designs, while Wendy added depth, bringing the pieces to life using the finest materials, textures, and knotting techniques. The "Movement in Blue" rug is crafted with rich shades of azure, coral green, and aubergine purple set against a deep indigo background. This harmonious blend of colors evokes a positive, energetic atmosphere that fills a room with a sense of well-being.
Similarly, "Movement in Red" features deep tones of deep strong powerful reds, contrasted with subtle blues, resulting in a visually striking experience. The seamless blending of yarns and colors adds a unique richness to the piece.

The interplay of wool and silk, with their deep hues and soft contrasts, aims to evoke a sense of comfort and energy. The softness of the fibers and the play of light create an atmosphere that is both positive and energetic, making these rugs true works of art that enrich any space.

From the very first sketch to the final product, we worked closely together, choosing and refining designs until we reached the perfect selection. Wendy and Reza's expertise played a crucial role in guiding the process, from picking the right weaving atelier to selecting the finest materials.
